Tips from a Tired Mama

anti-colic-bottleThis past week has been a test for our whole family. Remember that sweet, happy, well-rested baby we had?

Well, sweet Charlie brought in her seventh month with a bang. A drooling, teething, screaming in the middle of the night kind of bang.

Guys, our easy-going, smiley happy girl is so freaking miserable, and it breaks my heart. It happened literally overnight, and it’s so tough to watch. She’s so obviously uncomfortable, and just can’t settle herself enough to get a decent rest. Which means absolutely nobody in our house is sleeping well. Em’s taken to waking up when she starts screaming, and then my hubby and I are BOTH up trying to divide and conquer to get them back to sleep.

Up until this point, Charlie has fit so seamlessly into our family. Sure, we’ve had our growing pains. But if I’m being honest, I’m pretty sure I completely underestimated the havoc that a non-sleeping babe can wreak on a household with a toddler.

While I’m about 95% sure that teething is the ultimate culprit with Charlie, the whole ordeal takes me back to the early days with Emmett… when we were deep in the trenches of intense sleep deprivation, with a babe who just couldn’t settle… and it went on for months. Yep, months. It wasn’t teething with him. And only hindsight made us realize we were probably dealing with a baby with colic symptoms (it’s amazing how when you’re on the other side of things they suddenly become so clear).

We were grasping at straws and couldn’t find anything that helped.

So, I feel like it’s my duty as your (thoroughly-exhausted-with-the-second-kid) mom friend to share a gem from one of my favourite companies. The Philips Avent Anti-colic bottle. It’s honestly the bottle I wish I’d had with Emmett.

Philips Avent products are really, really well designed and these bottles are no exception. Philips Avent bottles are always our go-to reco for new moms (they’re simple, readily available, and accepted by just about every babe we know). The anti-colic bottle takes all of that goodness, but adds to it an AirFree vent that keeps air out of the nipple and reduces air ingestion… which means a less gassy baby, and less crying and fussing. You can also use the bottle without the AirFree vent too (you know, if your babe miraculously grows out of the colic stage). You get the best of both worlds with this bad boy.

So, if you’re in the thick of it, please please please… ask for help. Get your partner (or a friend, or anyone you trust) involved, give yourself a break, and hand that sweet babe over with a bottle so you can get some rest. Because I speak from experience when I say, that NO ONE is happy when momma’s exhausted.

And because we can’t help but want to give away a good thing, we’re giving away a Philips Avent Anti-Colic Bottle Gift Set (valued at $87.99). So, get in there mamas, and get yourself a little piece of mind!
