Okay, so before we get started here I’m going to kick this off with a big ol’ caveat: I’m NOT a professional interior designer. I enjoy creating lovely spaces in our home, but trust me, that does not (ahem) make me a designer.
Buuuut, that being said, we did have some questions after we shared our Powder Room Reveal about how we came up with the design, and why we chose the features we did. So, I thought I’d share some of the tips and tricks we used when putting together the space!
Keep in mind our powder room is tiny, so we built our design around the idea of maximizing impact in the small space! So, here we go:
Four Tips to Create Big Style in a Small Bathroom
- Keep your fixtures clean and crisp. A simple, classic sink and modern toilet can set the tone for a small bathroom space without competing with your design. There’s not a lot of ‘breathing space’ in a tiny bathroom, so opting for a clean and simple pedestal sink is a great way to keep the space feeling open.
- Use one wall to go bold! We used Alexandria Moulding Ship Lap in a deep, rich tone on one wall to create visual interest without sacrificing valuable real estate. The ship lap adds beauty and texture, and the deep colour adds depth in the space making it feel even larger. Also, the Alexandria ship lap comes primed and ready for paint, which makes prep and installation so much easier. For the record, I almost went with white on the ship lap in this space, and I’m just so glad I decided to go dark!
- Light is everything. We have zero natural light in this bathroom, so finding a light fixture that we keep the space feeling bright and fresh was important. It’s not the time for an antique bulb or low wattage fixture.
- Hang it up! When there’s zero extra space in a bathroom for storage (those extra TP rolls need a home!), find some beautiful wall shelves that aren’t too deep and let them do the work for you. Storage can be beautiful and functional too!
