I get asked a lot how I learned about plants. The honest answer is, I didn’t take a course (although I’m currently thinking about it!), I didn’t work at a nursery, and I don’t have any family members that handed down the information.
I went old school.
I read plant books. A lot of plant books.
Every time I get a new plant, or even when I see one on my travels that I don’t know, I start looking for information on it. I search through books, search online, and learn as much as I can.
And slowly, but surely, I’ve built a foundation of plant knowledge that I can build on share, and continue to grow!
So, I’m sharing the three books that I depend on most. They’re the first place I go when I’m trying to figure out what ‘that pretty dark green plant, with pointed leaves and white flowers’ is. And they’ve yet to let me down!
Plant Book #1: The Little Book of House Plants
This bite-sized beauty was actually a gift, and I love it because it’s practical. It covers most of the common houseplants you’ll need to identify, and gives enough care information to help, but not soo much that you’ll feel overwhelmed!
Plant Book #2: Leaf Supply
This is my encyclopedia. The place I go when I’m not even sure what I’m looking for, but hope I’ll find the answer. It has beautiful photos for identification, and also includes some great info on pests, propagation, and some fun commentary from other Plant People!
Plant Book #3: The Healing Power of Plants
This baby is my guide to how my plants go the extra mile. Looking to learn which plants help you sleep? Or which ones best clean your air? Or maybe which ones reduce stress? This little gem breaks it all down so it’s easy to understand, and offers a snippet of care and environment information on each plant too!
So, whether you’re looking to beef up your own plant skills, or find the perfect gift for a plant lover, I promise, these babies won’t let you down!
