Here’s a little factoid about me: I’m a wannabe musician. I legitimately can’t play a single instrument (wait… does the recorder count?) or carry a reasonable tune, but in our house we dance, sing and have music playing every single day.
Here’s another honest motherhood moment: Last year, while I was in the throes of two-under-two with a newborn and a needy toddler at home, I couldn’t imagine how we’d organize our life enough to get to a scheduled event every week. And while when he was a babe, Emmett got the benefit of classes, and lots of mommy-and-me time, Charlie just got thrown into the chaos and happily came along for the ride.
But, as with all crazy seasons of motherhood, this year the fog lifted a little and we settled into a routine that (most days) is fairly predictable. So, I knew I needed to jump on the opportunity and carve out some time for Charlie and me to do an activity together!
And what was at the top of our list?
MUSIC.
And more specifically Rainbow Songs music classes for toddlers.
I mean, I may not be able to play an instrument, but man, our instructor Thom sure can! And the magic he creates is something to behold.
It may feel really hard to carve the time out of our day some weeks to make it to class… but seeing Charlie fully engaged in the class, clapping, dancing and laughing along is sooooo worth it.
And you know what else? I’m going to take a hot minute here to talk about Rainbow Songs specifically because they’re so much more than just a music class. Here are just a few reasons why we love them:
- Each class is led by a wildly talented musician (no parental musical talent required!)
- The kids (and grown-ups!) are engaged in the music, introduced to new instruments and sounds, and are encouraged to be active and animated throughout the class
- The whole experience is geared towards supporting the bond between caregiver and child – it’s amazing how Charlie engages with me and we really connect through the music!
- The classes are tailored to a specific age group, so the little ones really interact with their peers and have a blast with age-appropriate activities!
So, all this is really just to say, if you’re on the fence about “pressing play” on a music class for your kiddos, just do it! Carve out the time, make it a priority, and watch the magic happen… because the smiles, learning and joy that happen in every class are 100% worth it.
