Charlie’s officially taken to this whole eating thing like a fish to water (or like Emmett to food… because apparently both of my kids can EAT). We’ve been busy introducing new foods to her, and exploring new flavours and textures, and it’s one of my favourite things. Is it possible to eat with your whole body? Because I’m pretty sure she does.
And since we’re right smack-dab in the middle of the baby food action, it seemed like now was a great time to chat a little bit about our baby food philosophy.
Well, let’s start by saying, in all things I want the best for my kids. Full stop. I want them to be nourished, healthy, loved… and I know every one of you out there is nodding along with me, like “yup! Me too.”
So, what does that mean for us when it comes to baby food? Well, when it’s feasible for our family (when I have the time, and the groceries), and when we’re introducing new foods, I make Charlie’s baby food. We buy organic produce, steam it, and blend it up into some fun combinations for her!
But, here’s the other thing. That doesn’t always happen. Sometimes we’re on the run when Charlie needs to eat, sometimes the poop hits the fan, we haven’t bought fresh produce in a few days and for a million different reasons the baby food just doesn’t get made. That’s real life.
And you know what? That’s okay.
It’s okay for a couple of reasons.
- Because it just is (there’s no room for mom-guilt around these parts!)
- Because there are fabulous, Canadian premade options that we feel great about giving our kiddos when we need them
If you’re new around here (hi!), one of our absolute favourite brands and partners is Baby Gourmet. Long before we partnered with them, we were feeding Emmett their awesome food, and honestly just about every day one of our kids is probably eating something that they’ve made (cereal, baby purees, snacks, etc). Frankly they’re a huge part of the reason we can feed our babes premade food guilt-free.
Here are a few things you might not know about Baby Gourmet, and just a few reasons we love them:
- They’re a Canadian company
- They were founded by two moms who wanted to make better baby food, who started creating purees in their kitchen and selling it at farmers markets
- They use organic and non-GMO ingredients, include no fillers, no added sugar or salt, and no artificial preservatives
So that’s it guys.! We do our best to feed Charlie wholesome, organic, homemade meals (just like we do for Emmett and our whole family). And when that doesn’t happen? We go to the next best thing. And feel 100% okay with that decision.
