Can we talk about toddlers for a minute? Those magnificently energetic little creatures, with imaginations and emotions that run wild?! Toddlers are amazing at pretend play, exploring and creating. And it’s mind-boggling to see how quickly they grasp new concepts and absorb new ideas.
Which also feels like a whole-lotta pressure as a parent sometimes. Am I providing the right kind of examples for him? Am I giving him everything he needs to learn and grow? So, when I start to feel more than a little overwhelmed by the whole raising-a-human deal, I go back to what I really want for him. And that’s to be Strong and Kind.
With that in mind, we’ve been talking a lot lately about anonymous acts of kindness. How it’s always important to think of others, but how sometimes doing something kind for someone WITHOUT any recognition can be the best way to give (not always an easy concept for a two-year-old)!
So, when our favourite folks at Local Love reminded us that September is a fabulous time to show big love for the people in our community, we dreamed up a little activity to ensure our neighbours felt the love!
Step 1: Buy a few goodies (we got coffee gift cards because September, some sweet treats and a mug)
Step 2: Bundle them together (we used colourful paper bags and a little tissue paper to pull them together)
Step 3: Write a message to your neighbours (remember – keep it anonymous!)
Step 4: Choose a time when people aren’t likely to be home and drop the goodies on their doorstep!
The whole activity was easy and inexpensive to pull together, and Emmett kept telling me how he ‘loves delivering secret treats’ which sounds almost like he’s grasping what we’re doing! Big win!
And as always, it’s the amazing crew at Local Love with their Good News Letter that inspires us to find ways to invest in our community (insert heart-explosion here). If you’re not signed up for the Good News Letter you’re missing out on some inbox happiness! The Good News Letter comes weekly and is a quick roundup of three things: something to inspire, something to learn and something to try. So, get signed up, make your inbox a happy place every week, and then let me know what you and your family are planning to make your community a happier place! I’d love to hear!
