I’d consider myself pretty gutsy. I’m not afraid to try new things, I like to set ambitious goals for myself, and I looooove a good roller coaster. But I’m going to admit, laser hair removal had me a bit nervous.
Okay, first things first. Why was I even considering laser hair removal?
Because TIME. It’s the one commodity in our lives that’s finite. We can’t get more of it, and we can’t change it. So, really. Who wants to waste it shaving your underarms?
My life consists of either entertaining two toddlers, carrying two toddlers, or feeding two toddlers. All. Day. Long. So, I’m all for anything in my life that saves me time and makes life (and showers!) just a little bit easier. But I’m going to admit I was a little bit nervous about the whole process. My inner control freak let loose in a big way, and I started thinking about all the what-ifs: what if it really hurts, what if the technician isn’t knowledgeable, what if it doesn’t work? I know. I know.
But, insert the MD Beauty Clinic here. They’re the reason I went through with the process. And I want to tell you why.
First, the MD Beauty Clinic marries the safety and expertise of a surgical clinic (their medical director is both a surgeon and an aesthetic expert) with the sensibility of a high end beauty bar. They’re one of the leading experts in non-surgical rejuvenation (think peels, skin tightening, hair removal and fillers), and they’re all about helping you celebrate your natural beauty.
So, I found the clinic that kept my control-freakery at bay, but what was my experience like?
Well, first things first, I met with my technician Miriam at the clinic for a consultation. She went through all of the services provided and explained to me in detail what the laser hair removal process would be like.
She explained that the process is not pain-free but shouldn’t be painful either. She also explained that the process works best on areas where your skin pigment and hair pigment have the greatest contrast: for me, my underarms and bikini area were perfect candidates – my skin is light, and the hair is dark… check!). We reviewed my medical history, and then we did a small test patch – just a tiny area of treatment with thee laser to confirm that my skin didn’t react to the process.
Once, I understood the process and decided what I wanted to have done (Laser Hair Removal on my underarms and bikini area), we booked my next few sessions. It can take anywhere from 3-6 sessions to see a complete hair reduction depending on a whole host of factors, and appointments are scheduled 6 weeks apart.
And because I know you’ll want to know, I’m currently two full treatments in, and here are my observations on the process so far:
- The treatments do involve some pain, but the technicians are amazing, and allow you to select the ‘strength’ of the laser – so you should never feel more pain that you’re comfortable with.
- You can shave between treatments, which is amazing. The ‘grow out’ period was always my issue with waxing, so this is a big win.
- It’s definitely a higher upfront cost, but when I think about how much I spent on waxing – it pays back in a hurry!
- After two treatments I’ve seen a massive reduction in hair growth already – especially in my underarms. There is potential for a few hairs to grow back in the long run, but that just means coming back in for a ‘touch up’ appointment. Still way more convenient than constantly waxing.
- The team at the MD Beauty Clinic makes it SO easy. They manage appointment bookings and reminders for me, and the staff is efficient and professional in the clinic.
So, that’s the deal friends. I’m officially a huge fan of the MD Beauty Clinic and of Laser Hair Removal. If you’re on the fence about having it (or one of their other non-surgical procedures) done, call them. Ask questions. Or go in for a chat. They know what they’re talking about, they know what they’re doing, and they’ll put your mind at ease.
Note: this post was written in partnership with MD Beauty Clinic and we were offered to try their services at no cost as part of the partnership. As always, all the opinions above are ours alone, and we’d never recommend anything we didn’t truly love!
