I love Fall. Seriously, by far it’s my favourite season.
I love the cooler temps, and the crisp days. I love the cozy fashion, and allllllllll the apples.
But I’ll let you in on a little secret. There’s one thing I don’t love about Fall…
Orange.
There’s something about burnt orange. I’ve never found a way to incorporate orange into my design style, and I’ve always felt a little bit like I’m battling the season when it comes to decor.
Anyone out there with me? If so, I’m here to help. After seasons of trying to capture the feeling of Fall in a neutral colour palate, I’ve put together a super simple way to spruce up your porch for the season, while maintaining a neutral palate!
Tip #1: Mix Metals
The combination of silver, gold, copper, and even rose gold, will make your decor feel warm and cozy without having to delve into the orange spectrum.
I snagged this fab silver lantern from Canadian Tire – it’s part of their Canvas collection, which I can’t say enough about. The best part? We’ll change up the bits we’ve placed inside around November, and it’ll take us seamlessly into Winter decor.
Tip #2: Use What You Have
We had some of this neutral potpourri kicking around from a season past (don’t tell my hubby that I kept it), and it made for a perfect accent inside the lantern.
Have some gold or copper accents laying around? Now’s the time to break them out!
Tip #3: Embrace the Natural
There’s a surefire way to kick the ‘fall’ up a notch, and it’s to add some straw. Or hay, or wheat. All neutral colours, and all classically fall. Mix it with some greens and white flowers to keep things fresh, and you’ve got ‘modern, neutral fall’ nailed!
