organic-plant-based-groceryIf you’ve been here for a while, and if you follow us on the ‘Gram, you know that we’ve set a goal for ourselves this year of incorporating more plant-based family friendly meals into our diet.

And if I’m being honest, when it comes to veggie/vegan options, our fam (*cough* hubby *cough*) isn’t the easiest to please.

Note: I’ve partnered with YMC and Moneris and have received compensation for this post. As always, all opinions and experiences are my own!

So, imagine how thrilled I was to find a local gem like The Sweet Potato. They’re an organic Toronto grocery store with the most fabulous produce section I’ve ever seen. In fact, they started as a stall at farmers markets, with a mission to bring delish organic produce to people at reasonable prices. And now they’ve grown into an awesome permanent space right in the Junction. And if the organic produce, bulk section and organic butcher counter weren’t enough to win you over… just strike up a conversation with their staff.

I sometimes feel a little overwhelmed trying to come up with plant-based recipes, and the staff at The Sweet Potato were more than willing to help inspire. Never cooked a spaghetti squash before? Trying to figure out what to do with those lentils? Wondering if you can actually roast a chickpea? They’ve got you.

Honestly, it’s conversations and experiences like this that remind me why shopping local is so important. Supporting passionate entrepreneurs who are investing in the community, and really solving a need is so important. The team at The Sweet Potato care about their business, they care about the community, and they care about helping me figure out what to do with the bag full of almond flour I just picked up. And as an aside, while we’re talking about supporting local businesses?  Did you guys know that Moneris is committed to supporting small businesses with payment options that work for every type of business? Because helping local businesses thrive is something we can absolutely get behind.

So, what’s on the menu for the next couple weeks?

Vegan Apple Crisp (a home for that almond flour guys)

Tomato Basil Pasta with a Cashew Cream Sauce

And maybe even a Thai Peanut Noodle Bowl

And, I mean, there’s at least a 50% chance I make them successfully 😉
