So, our sweet Emmett is an EATER. The kid loves food. Any form, any variety, at any temperature. While most of the time I feel wickedly grateful that he eats well (because trust me… other things, like sleep, don’t come as easily), he’s starting to gain an independent streak that can make mealtimes an adventure. It used to be that we’d chop up some tasty morsels, leave them in front of him, and they’d be gone in minutes. Not only that, but I could easily spoon yogurt (or anything else into his mouth) without him batting an eye. These days though, every time the spoon comes within striking distance, he’s trying to grab it (which I want to encourage), and it results in him dumping 90% of the food on the floor (which I’d really like to discourage… for my own sanity).
So needless to say, when we started chatting with the lovely folks from Smashing Baby (an awesome online baby boutique!) and they suggested that we try the Num Num Gootensil, we we’re BEYOND excited to try it out. Read on!
AFFORDABILITY:
Because Smashing Baby is so awesome, they have a market leading price point on the Gootensil. The two pack is listed on their site for $12.95 (for a pack of two). I did some digging, and there are other silicone scoop/shovel products that exist (that don’t have the unique benefits of the Gootensil), at around a $15 price point for a pack of two… so $12.95 for a better product feels pretty darn good to us!
BLUEPRINT:
- Two Gootensils are included in the pack: one with a hollow center for thicker purees that will ‘stick’ in the middle until it reaches your babe’s mouth, and one with a textured groove on both sides for thinner purees, to grab and hold thinner items (like yogurt) until your babe chomps them
- They’re perfectly sized for baby hands, and have a soft texture that keeps them from slipping out of tiny paws
- The ends are soft and chewy, and safe for babes to chomp and teethe on (BPA-free, PVC-free, and phalate-free)
- There’s no wrong way to hold it! This might be the best part… there’s no ‘scoop’ so your little one won’t get frustrated by trying to dunk their spoon in foods upside down, and yet it really works (as you can see from Em’s yogurt covered face)
- We tried both options, and even in thinner foods, the Gootensil easily got enough food from bowl to mouth to satisfy even our hungy monkey!
CREATIVITY:
This is the very first ‘no-wrong-way-to-use-it’ utensil that we’ve found, and we’re so glad! It encourages development of motor skills, independence, and we love that it’s unique AND affordable AND it works! Did we also mention that we LOVE Smashing Baby for making it easily available in Canada (you can order online here)?!
Now for the best part! The folks at Smashing Baby are giving one of you amazing mamas a set of Gootensils too! Because we love ya’! Click and Enter below, and click on over to Smashing Baby to see the other adorable and awesome baby items they’ve got going on.
