Our Life 6 Months Postpartum

baby-outdoor-momI thought it might be a time for a little update on our life. We’ve had a slew of questions lately on how things are going, and how we’re settling into life now that Charlie is 6 months old (what?!)… so here goes!

The truth is, things are going pretty well! Em’s a typical toddler – spunky, sometimes sassy, snuggly, and FULL of energy. But somehow, Charlie has slid right alongside the chaos rather seamlessly!

It’s like somehow, she knows that her brother will provide constant entertainment… and all she needs to do is kick back and enjoy the show!

And you guys she sleeeeeeeeps. She sleeps better than Emmett does, I swear! After Em, I was pretty convinced we’d never have a babe that slept… but low and behold – sweet Charlie Sue proved me wrong. And honestly, I truly believe it’s a game-changer. With Emmett, I felt so sleep deprived that entire first year, that I was barely able to tackle the day-to-day. (Side note: If you’re reading this and you have a babe who’s not sleeping…  just know I’ve been there! It’s one of the toughest things you’ll ever walk through, and all I can say is you’ve got this. Just one day at a time, mama. But you’ve got this!)

Now, with two kiddos sleeping well (most of the time… because they’re still babies!) even the longest and most exhausting days seem manageable! And I don’t take that blessing lightly. I’m so, sooo grateful for it. Because no matter how sweet and calm little Charlie is, having two babies is still twice the work. The days are so joyful, but soooo exhausting. Em wants to do so much on his own, but still needs so much from me. And Charlie – well she’s still my little koala babe basically 24/7.

So can I tell you a secret? Can I let you in on the change I made in our life recently that’s been nothing short of a game-changer?

I started investing time in myself.

It’s not easy. It usually involves early mornings (sometimes when I’m really, really tired), and it takes a lot of scheduling and planning between my hubby and I. But I’m carving out two mornings a week to get out of the house by myself to go to the gym. And it’s making me feel like a different woman.

Breast feeding (still almost exclusively at this point) and getting to the gym on my own initially felt like a logistical nightmare, but I have to tell you – in case you’re new here and don’t know about my deep love for Philips Avent products – it’s my Philips Avent Double Electric Breast Pump that’s made the difference.

It’s a double pump, which means I can wake up early and quickly get enough milk pumped for Charlie’s ‘breakfast’ before I run out the door. The cups also have soft gel cushioning which makes them super comfortable, and the ergonomic design means I can sit comfortably and eat breakfast while I’m pumping – multitasking win!

So that’s it friends – that’s my six month update for you! We’ve officially hit that point where it’s hard to remember what life was like before we were a family of four. Now, I’m 100% sure that roughly 2 minutes after I write this, something will change, or the poop will hit the fan (possibly literally)… but this crazy circus of mine? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
