Is it starting to get chilly where you live too?! One of our favourite ways to warm up in the winter is with a big ol’ cup of hot chocolate!
This year Em’s old enough to join in the tasty chocolaty fun, so we’re sharing the recipe we use to make our fave creamy, yummy hot chocolate!
Woodland Mug and Plate: Kitchen Stuff Plus
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup (or a little less) white sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 1/3 cup boiling water
- 3 ½ cups milk
- ¾ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup half-and-half cream
Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan (I tend to use a bit less sugar than the recipe calls for – it’s pretty sweet!). Blend in the boiling water. Bring the mixture to an easy boil while stirring. Simmer and stir for about 2 mins (keep the heat around medium to make sure it doesn’t burn!).
Stir in 3 ½ cups of milk and heat until very warm, but don’t boil!
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
Pour into 4 mugs.
Add cream to each mug to taste (and to cool them to drinking temperature).
Top with marshmallows, whip cream or your favourite toppings and ENJOY!
