I estimate that we’re about halfway through this whole teething journey (let a girl dream), which means we’ve had our fair share of drooling, cranky, sleepless nights and understand the sheer insanity that ensues. It also means we’ve tried A LOT of teething solutions… toys, supplements, drugs, home remedies… you name it we’ve tried it. It also means, though, that we’ve tried some really awesome products that really do help. And let’s face it, happy babe = happy mama. So, of course, we wanted to share one of our favourite teething finds, the Nawgum Teether…. Read on!
Affordability: At $25 the Nawgum (by Mello & Co) is on the high end of the price bracket for teethers (which tend to range from about $10- $25). That being said, we’ve tried (and subsequently thrown out) a lot of $10ish teethers that didn’t work at all for Em… so if you consider the cost of having to try a few lemons vs. just going for the Nawgum (which works!) then the investment rationale makes sense to us!
Blueprint: The design of the Nawgum is definitely it’s brilliance. It was designed by a mom who was tired of teethers that didn’t work (preach!), and was developed after discussions with pediatric dentists, pediatricians, and a host of other experts (including parents).
- The Nawgum is made of food grade silicon, is seamless and non-porous, and is BPA-free
- It’s designed with two ‘fingers’ that mimic a babe’s favourite chew toy… a finger, and two mini-bumpers on the sides
- All of the little protrusions have unique textures, and unbelievably, each texture has precise measurements that help soothe and massage tiny baby gums and chompers
- The shape makes it easy to grip for babes, and gives variable chewing surfaces, so it can work through all stages of teething (from cutting the first tooth, right up to molars… man, am I dreading molars)
- It’s dishwasher safe! Hooray!
Creativity: One of our favourite bits about the Nawgum, is that it’s also been proven to be beneficial to older children with special needs, who have chewing challenges. The Nawgum is strong enough to handle the strength of an older child’s jaw, and small enough that it can be handled discreetly, removing some of the stigma. Finding a way to address the needs of all children inclusively, gets a big ol’ gold star from us.
And just to cap off the excitement, our friends at Hip Mommies (check them out, they’re seriously awesome) are giving one of our awesome readers a Nawgum of their very own! So click on over to our Instagram, check out our Nawgum post, and enter to win! Because we could all use a little more sleep.
XO
Note: We were provided a Nawgum to test prior to writing this review, however all opinions are, of course, our own. Would we lead a mom with a teething babe astray?! Sounds like a death wish 😉
