In our experience, toddlers get excited about everything. Literally everything. Find a pair of socks that fit them? High five! Read the same book fourteen times in a row? Squeals of delight! You get the idea.
I’m a big fan of celebrating (maybe that’s where Em gets it from?!), but we’ve also had a serious focus on minimizing the amount of ‘stuff’ in our house lately… two passions that can sometimes be at odds.
That being said, Easter is a non-negotiable celebration at our house. So, I did some serious thinking about how we could toddler-ize the festivities to keep it fun, minimize the ‘stuff’ that we brought into the house, and still have an egg-tastic Easter (I just. Can’t. Help. Myself.)
So what tips did we come up with for a Toddler-friendly celebration?
- Include practical (and adorable) elements in the festivities! In Em’s case, he couldn’t care less whether he’s finding/opening the most gigantic toy, or an amazingly adorable lunch bag to help organize snacks in his diaper bag! He still thinks the hunt is fun, and we get to include some cute and practical elements into his basket!
- We have a serious crush on Fluf Textile Goods right now. Em’s ‘Sleepover Tote’/Easter basket, his striped traveller kit, and wink zip pouch (think amazing diaper bag organizers), and his adorable Cactus lunch bag are all from Fluf! They’re an awesome Canadian company that focuses on using sustainable, organic materials to produce adorable (and durable) bits for your family… and they’re perfect for Easter fun!
- Substitute their favourite snacks for chocolate and candy. Em still doesn’t really know what candy is (the benefit of being the oldest child), so we can totally get away with filling plastic eggs with some cereal puffs and graham crackers… and he still thinks he’s in heaven hunting around for them!
- Add books!!! Em loves reading… and often we end up reading his favourites on repeat (see first paragraph). So adding a new favourite to his Easter basket was a no-brainer. We found the most adorable personalized books from i see me! Em’s has a personalized front page (with a message from mom and dad), and then runs through the whole alphabet with an awesome character trait that we want him to have for every letter of the alphabet – so freaking cute! And the illustrations and characters are too adorable.
So, that’s what Easter is going to look like at our house this year… and we’re pretty darn excited. In fact, we’re so excited, that we’ve teamed up with Fluf and i see me to give one of you lucky lovelies a couple of amazing treats of your own!
